Bruh that song just unlocked a whole ass memory for me! I remember as a preteen, a girl I knew would cry sometimes while telling all of us not to listen to Miley Cyrus and that the Hoedown Throwndown was glorifying hookers, easy women, etc. Her family was extremely religious and almost lived this like.. modern Amish lifestyle. I’m not sure exactly what they were but they dressed sorta Amish like, and lived without tv’s, games, or anything non essential when it came to electricity. But their religious beliefs were a bit more.. well., doomsday and religious fear mongering to the max style. They took the “hoedown” part very literally and in another direction lol. I remember some kids trying to explain to her that’s not what it meant and her just sobbing “that’s what they want you to think! Until all of you are going around singing about..about.. HOES!”. She was just so mad she blurted the word or in rage. I hope she’s doing alright now… her family had some scary mindsets sometimes. They also had massive issues with Harry Potter, and she’d tell us all not to read it (I’m literally a Hufflepuff, so…). But her mother would send her with these very crudely made magazine like pamphlets regarding the “true chamber of secrets” behind Harry Potter and how it was all to corrupt the youth and make them willing and susceptible to witchcraft etc.
